The Evangelicals hail from Norman, Oklahoma. Their sound reminds me a lot of Cap N' Jazz and Joan of Arc. Their brand of poppy rock is a bit psychedellic, without reaching too far. Check out a track from their latest release, 'The Evening Descends', as well as from their first release. Also, check out and add their MySpace page here.
Check out one my favorite tunes from Kathleen Hanna and Bikini Kill, before she was rocking out with Le Tigre. Rumor (back in the day) had it, that Hanna was involved with Kurt Cobain, leading to much strife.
Congratulations to Shepard Fairey and his much famed Obama 'Hope' portrait landing in The Smithsonian. Read more about it here. "The Entrance" by Large Professor

Fuck you to whomever(s) decided they should steal my bank card number and duplicate a card with their name on it(according to Walmart loss prevention) and spend $800 at Walmarts in Florida. What's wrong with our country and economy, is that it's a lot cheaper to outsource jobs to places like my native country, The Philippines than employ people here in the states. And when one has to call a place like Chase Manhattan, and gets a representative on the phone that stammers broken English to you, and can't really explain to you why they can't effectively help you recover your money right now, but instead fill out a shitload of paperwork that can take up to 90 days to process, this in turn can make one crazy. These great shirts are available here. Sure our country's outlook is bleak, but would you rather have the McCain/Palin ticket 'mavericking' the country right now?

Usher in the new presidency with a great new Showtime show, 'United States of Tara'. Toni Collette displays her excellent range, that was previously showcased in 'The Sixth Sense', 'Little Miss Sunshine', and 'In Her Shoes', to name a few. 'Juno' screenwriter Diablo Cody also has a hand in Executive Producing 'United States of Tara'. The show is based on the multiple personality disorder of Collette, which she masterfully plays, and the effect it has on her husband and two kids. Each 'alter' as the show refers to each of Collette's personalities, are vastly different. The premiere episode included 'T', a promiscuous and flirtatious 'teenager', and 'Buck', a true, backwoods, good ol' boy, all inhabiting Collette's body. She has one simple rule for her husband, played by John Corbett. Don't sleep with any of the other 'alters'. While the vessel is Collette's Tara, whomever is possessing it at the time is a different story. The premise for this show is quite clever, leaving large potential and possibility for future episodes, and even more longevity in upcoming seasons. Check out 'United States of Tara' on Showtime, Sundays at 10pm Eastern and Pacific.

Local heroes The Silversun Pickups are in the 'lab' working on an album titled 'Swoon'. Above are some behind the scenes photos. I hope 'Swoon' trumps the expectations an anticipated record often comes with. Check out the first version of 'Lazy Eye' that came with the first 'record', that the band would sell at their shows in 2003...brought to you from a CDR. It's a lot slower than what the eventual album versions would be.

I've always thought the labeling of certain genres of music are pretty ridiculous. The thought of a particular brand of music being ideal for 'gazing' at one's shoes with both hands in your pockets, is retarded. And by retarded, I mean gay...so much for political correctness. And for all the great bands that were in a particular movement in the early to mid 90's, who played a certain style of rock music that made you feel 'emotions', did not in fact walk around telling people they were in an 'emo' band. And hearing people use that term these days, makes me feel the exact same way when the word 'oriental' is used to describe people. A band is a band, their music is music. And people who are actually well informed about the latest ideas and styles do not walk around calling themselves hipsters, like it's a good thing.
Today is George W.'s last day. The last 8 years have felt like a prison sentence. This is what inmates on their last day must feel like? Get through the day without incident. Tomorrow is a hopeful, new day. We must try to shed all the negatives from the last 8 years. The Desapercidos wrote and recorded their album "Read Music/Speak Spanish" shortly after 9-11-01. The following is a reminder of the legacy President Bush has left us. I too, get the dumb chuckle our soon to be ex-President often gets, when I hear people say that he 'inherited' a recession at the beginning of his term. A comforting feeling when people I know of all ages are losing their jobs, and the owners and investors are also struggling financially...struggling to maintain their greed driven bottom line.
