I recently re-discovered Johnny Cash's "Unearthed" box set. A healthy dose of covers and collaborations with Joe Strummer, Nick Cave and Fiona Apple, with the help of another icon, Rick Rubin. Much has to be said for an artist to be totally relevant that late in the game. Check out "The Man Comes Around" and a cover of "Redemption Song" with Joe Strummer below.
