The Pains of Being Pure At Heart

Their band name is a mouth-full, but their sound is equally an ear full. I'll skip all the comparison to all the 'fuzzed-out' and 'shoegaze' 90's bands they've drawn comparisons to. Instead, I'll let you listen for yourself. Also, check out their MySpace page here.

Dark Was the Night.

While more and more tracks will inevitably come available on the web, I can't stress the fact enough, that people should purchase this record, for the good cause it is for. I for one, will do so. More information can be found here. Or, the 4AD Records site, here.

Dan Auerbach

Dan Auerbach, the vocalist from The Black Keys, is releasing a solo record...which I guess would make more sense than drummer Patrick Carney releasing a record of just drum solos and patterns? Check out two tracks from the forthcoming Dan Auerbach solo album titled 'Keep it Hid'.

Misfits Medley.

God bless Annie Hardy...and her foul-ass mouth. Check out Annie's medley of Misfits songs below, recorded at GTFU Radio. Last I heard, she was still trying to trudge on with Giant Drag, minus the other half, Micah. Aren't there any reputable/capable drummers in L.A?!

VLA

VLA, which stands for Very Large Array, was a promising L.A. band, in the mid 90's. They always put on a highly spirited live show. Their sound is in the proximity of The Pixies and in the neighborhood of say the Peter Murphy releases of the time. Since they came around before the internet boom, there isn't much written about them, other than here.

Gerry and The Holograms

This is another track from the great Diplo v. Santogold mixtape, previously posted, and including link to full mixtape for download here. There's not much info out there on Gerry and The Holograms, other than this was originally released in 1979. Check out Diplo's remix below. Is it me, or does this remix remind me a little bit of New Order's "Blue Monday"?

Thorns of Life

Blake Schwarzenbach has a new band, called Thorns of Life, featuring Aaron Cometbus on drums. I've heard mixed reviews from people who attended Friday night's show in Eagle Rock, CA. I think the fair thing to do is wait until the record actually comes out? Check out some Jawbreaker, and Thorns of Life video below.
