Black Cab Sessions

The Black Cab Sessions are filmed in the backseat of the famed London cabs. Notable artists to take part have been Death Cab For Cutie, My Morning Jacket, The National, Lightspeed Champion, The Coldwar Kids, and Bon Iver to name exactly six. One take, and whatever the artist can fit into the backseat, over the course of one cab ride. Check out the official site here. And a few of my favorite videos below:

Your Band Name Sucks.

I hate a lot of bands in L.A. Soon to come...a comprehensive list of bands with the most uncreative, uninspiring, and ridiculous names, that are currently playing the Los Angeles area. It's not the same as judging a book by it's cover...trust me, I can tell the following bands are shit. Just from a quick glance of The L.A. Weekly, here's a few turd sounding bands with delusional dreams, that are helping crud up this already overcrowded and heavily trafficked town: The Toy Yodas, He's Not Gay, Wooden Robot, Bundy, GodForbid, P-Dubb, Blue Sky Reality, Run Doris Run...just to name a few. Also, if you're in a cover band, just sell your equipment and call it quits. A message to all these bands: "Your band is shit. Do something drastic to yourself, and someone may hear about you. In the meantime, playing The Whisky and having to guarantee them you're gonna sell a shitload of overpriced tickets, or the shitty club on top of The Roxy is annoying for me to have to read about." All these 'we're gonna make it' bands are driving me to listen to real bands from yesteryear. Check out below:

NYE

I wish everyone a safe and Happy New Year. I offer two reflective tracks from The Books and Explosions in the Sky, respectively. Also, check out a great article about New Year's Eve parties here.

Also, Pitchfork's city by city guide to NYE events here...if you're city didn't make it, you should probably move.

Scrambled Eggs and Regret for Breakfast...Charles Hamilton revisited.

Check out the Charles Hamilton blog, and some additional tracks below. He really is one gifted kid. You have to love his brass on taking on Kanye West in his cut called "Green Lights".

Fuck.

Two bands I like with "Fuck" in their names. Listen to "Anorak City" by Fucked Up. Not be outdone by punk outfit Fucked Up, Fuck Buttons is a British two-piece that produce a collage of sound with many infused and varying elements. They exist on a plane of hostility and beauty at any given moments.

The Black Lips

The Black Lips describe themselves as 'flower punk'. I describe them to people as a prolific force to be reckoned with. They have a new record coming out early next year called "200 Million Thousand". Check out "Starting Over" below.
