Another foreseeable hiatus, this blogger is entering holy matrimony. Here's a couple of tracks I'm really enjoying until I return.
First off, is a track of the forthcoming Modest Mouse record, titled "No One's First, and You're Last". The tracks on this record were released in 7" form, leading up to the August 18th release date. You can pre-order it through Insound, HERE.
Next, we have Seattle's wonderful Jesy Fortino, who is Tiny Vipers. Here's a track from a really great forthcoming record from Memphis, Tennessee's Jay Reatard. The album is entitled "Watch Me Fall", and will be available on August 18th. Here's a track from the forthcoming Dodos album, "Time To Die". This one doesn't come out til September 15th. You can pre-order it through Insound here. I remember seeing The Dodos open for French Kiss Records labelmates Les Savy Fav a few years ago, and along with a lot of the crowd, I was taken aback that a band that sounds like this was in support of the NYC crazesters. Also, I'm totally willing to overlook the Dodos song "Fools" being used in a beer commercial recently. "Time To Die" deserves all of the anticipation and praise it is receiving. We're just gonna have to force ourselves to let go of the whole Hype Machine piece, because we're getting too many "anonymous" comments and empty threats from what I assume is the artists themselves, which after an afternoon of perusing their MySpace pages, confirms our suspicions of the fact that most of these acts are not worth the breath of mention.
So, we'll move on to a rock record we're anticipating. The Dead Weather is a side project featuring Alison Mosshart on vocals, from The Kills, Dean Ferita from Queens Of The Stone Age on guitar, Jack Lawrence from The Greenhornes on drums and bass, and Jack White on drums, guitar, and vocals. We're presuming Meg White is keeping herself busy somehow.
Interesting developments from the team at Hype Machine. Apparently, a number of shitty sounding bands have had their friends, people at small labels, or their girlfriends try to manipulate the Hype Machine set up, to increase their popularity. This site owes the majority of it's readership to Hype Machine and Elbows. These forums have been a great avenue to connect bloggers, listeners, music lovers of all parts of the world, to what is relevant in music these days. I think it stands as a testament, that what they have accomplished, frustrates and baffles the shit out of large record companies, and the old way of operating the record industry. I applaud the calling out of disingenuous efforts by these artists, or anyone connected to them, by the Hype Machine. A few of the artists try to explain how the appearance of fraudulent accounts, used to rev up their votes and good standing on the Hype Machine, are a simply explained misunderstanding.
